Safety information
General safety information for all unit variants
To ensure the intended use as well as safety, reliability and performance of the device and the battery, please read the following notes before initial commis- sioning:
Approval and EC conformity
Funktel GmbH hereby declares that the products D 11 and FC 11 are in compli- ance with the basic requirements and other relevant stipulations of Directive
1999/5/EC (Radio & Telecommunication Terminal Equipment, R&TTE).
The devices are intended for connection to the radio interfaces (DECT ™) of our Mobility Server and due to their construction are not suitable for direct op- eration on the interfaces of public telecommunication networks.
The term "Mobility Server" is our general designation for system-compatible private branch exchanges with DECT ™ functionality. For example, the Integral 55 (I55) mobility server and our DECT over IP system (DoIP, f.airnet system).
Should problems arise during operation, please contact your dealer or our ser- vice department immediately.
This equipment works on the DECT ™ system in the 1880 MHz to
1900 MHz.frequency range.
You may request the EC declaration of conformity from our service address or via the Internet at:
from the download field.
Protection against risk to your hearing
The D 11 and FC 11 handsets are equipped with an additional loudspeaker at the back of the housing for hands-free mode ...
CAUTION
Never hold this loudspeaker (at the back of the device (ring tone,
hands-free) directly to your ear!
A level of more than 80 dB (A) as measured at the sound source can be reached when signalling a call and in open listening mode
(hands-free mode) and may cause permanent hearing damage if the distance between the loudspeaker and the ear is too small, or if this exposure occurs very often.
Protection against interference with medical implants
At the time of writing there is no scientifically proven evidence of any health hazard posed by the radiation generated by DECT ™ handsets and
DECT ™ base stations. The exposure to high-frequency radiation of a DECT ™ handset is markedly lower than the exposure due to the radiation of a GSM mobile telephone. We never the less recommend that people who have pacemakers or other electronic implants always wear the
DECT ™ handset on the opposite side of the body to the pacemaker or im- plant. Do not wear the handset directly above the implanted pacemaker,
e. g. in your breast pocket.
You can find further information on the internet on the web site of the Ger- man Federal Office for Radiation Protection.
If necessary, consult your doctor.
Consult a hearing aid specialist if you have any questions regarding the compatibility of the handset with a hearing aid.
Protection of your business handset against tampering and environmental influences
ATTENTION
Never undo the screw fastenings of the device casing.
The casing may otherwise be damaged. The handset contains no parts that you can repair.
Protect the device from extreme environmental influences (e. g. tempera- tures outside of the temperature specifications in the technical data and from continuous direct solar radiation.
Do not expose the device to strong magnetic fields such as those that may occur e. g. near induction furnaces and induction stoves.
Protection of other devices against malfunctions due to the business handset
Usually, other electronic devices are protected against high-frequency irra- diation. However, if such a unit is insufficiently shielded, malfunctions may result that can be eliminated by a sufficiently large distance between the units.
Switch off the handset wherever the operation of DECT ™ telephones is forbidden. The use of DECT ™-telephones can be prohibited or limited in the vicinity of explosives, fuel and chemicals and in the vicinity of medical facilities. Always observe local information and prohibitions.
Handling the batteries , dispatch, storage, changing batteriesl
Use batteries compatible with the system with the serial number
5010760300 from the funktel spare part range.
Use the batteries properly. Funktel GmbH will not assume any liability for damage resulting from improper battery use.
If, in extreme cases, batteries become leaky, liquid (electrolyte) or gases may escape. Unusual deposits on the battery or on the device as well as unusual or pungent smells are indications of leaks. Switch off the device and hand it over to the service department.
Protect yourself against affects on your health posed by leaky batteries
(e. g. against skin irritation, burns or poisoning) by avoiding direct skin con- tact with the electrolyte that has flowed out and the inhalation of escaping gases. In case of doubt, consult a doctor!
Switch off the handset before dispatching it or storing for an extended pe- riod. Store or transport the handset and the battery in suitable, non-conduc- tive packaging. Use the original packaging if possible. An approximately
30 % level of charge is optimal for storage of the battery. During extended storage periods, the battery of the handset should be recharged to about
30 % of its capacity recharged every 6 to 24 months. During long-term stor- age, the storage temperature of the battery should be below the usual room temperature, e. g. between 0 ° C und 15 ° C.
Do not throw the battery into the fire as it might explode.
Do not short-circuit the battery contacts by touching them with conductive objects (metal, wire, tools, coins, electrically conductive packaging mate- rial). If the battery contacts are connected to each other conductively, the battery discharges.
The battery is a wear part. A lithium-ion battery slowly loses its original per- formance (capacity) due to age and usage as well as lengthy storage.
Such capacity losses are normal and will not give rise to a warranty claim.
Information regarding the care of lithium-ion batteries
The manner in which the performance of the battery can be maintained for as long as possible is to be found here.
Only use the system compatible charger with the plug-in power supply adapter model S004LV0640062!
Semi-charged batteries can be stored separated from the devices for an extended period of time at a storage temperature of 0 ° C to 15 ° C.
Batteries that are mounted in the device discharge themselves during ex- tended storage due to the idle power consumption of the device and the battery. Charge the batteries in the device once before storage begins and then regularly every 3 months.
Charge batteries that are depleted immediately by placing the device in its charger. Depleted batteries can be recognised by the 'Battery empty' mes- sage or by the decreasing functionality of your device.
If the operating time of a device is reduced markedly after extended use of the device, the battery should be exchanged for a new one.
An important negative influence on the service life of a battery, for which we cannot be held responsible, is each severe heating up of the battery in stor- age or operation.
Therefore - and as far as possible - do not leave the handset lying in either direct sunlight or near to sources of heat.
Using the chargers
All power sockets for the plug-in power supplies of the chargers must be lo- cated nearby and must always be accessible. The power socket must be installed by specialist personnel in accordance with regulations.
Before plugging the plug-in power supply into the socket make sure that the available mains supply complies with the specifications on the plug-in
power supply (e. g. 230 V, 50 Hz).
Chargers and plug-in power supplies contain no parts that can be serviced
(maintained).
Repairs must be performed by trained specialists according to regulations. Only exchange defective or damaged chargers / plug-in power supplies - even in the case of a damaged connection cable - for original parts.
CAUTION
Be careful when handling damaged plug-in power supply units:
Touching parts connected to the mains is life-threatening!
Switch off the socket (remove the fuse of the relevant circuit or switch off)
before unplugging a damaged plug-in power supply from the socket.
The chargers and the plug-in power supply units are designed for use in an office-type environment. Protect the charger against heavy dirt, dust, hu- midity and moisture as well as direct heat radiation. See page 207.
End-user information regarding environmentally responsible disposal of old units and depleted batteries
The returning and the environmentally responsible disposal of old electric and electronic units is governed by the German Electrical and Electronic Equip- ment Act.
All electrical and electronic devices marked with the crossed-out rubbish bin as well as their components, e.g. empty batteries, must not be disposed of together with household waste, but must be collected separately and dis- posed of / reused in an environmentally friendly manner.
Return these units and components to a public electronic
scrap collecting point. All components of these old units which contain haz- ardous substances will be collected separately and disposed of in an envi- ronmentally friendly way, according to their degree of harmfulness. All other components not containing any hazardous substances are reused as sec- ondary raw materials.
Only dispose of depleted batteries.

From time to time, check the icon indicating the charge state of the battery. Place the handset in the charger as soon as the empty battery display be- gins to flash, indicating a depleted battery.
Take note of and follow the safety instructions in this instruction manual!
Emission of radio signals
The unit meets EC requirements for the emission of radio signals.
Like any mobile communication unit, the D 11 or FC 11 handset is a transmitter and receiver of radio signals.
The HF transmitter in these devices are designed and manufactured so that high frequency (HF) energy threshold values recommended by the Council of the European Union will not be exceeded.
These threshold values are part of comprehensive guidelines defining allowed HF energy values for the general public. These guidelines were prepared by independent scientific organisations, using regular and thorough evaluation of scientific studies.
These guidelines include a substantial safety margin that is to guarantee the safety of persons of any age and health condition.

Starting up
Operating modes of the D 11
The D 11 offers the following modes of operation
Operation without MEM card
All D 11 settings and log-in data for operation on a system-compatible telecommunication system such as the Integral 55, GAP system or on the f.airnet DoIP system are stored in the memory of the handset.
The D 11 can be logged in to multiple system-compatible telecommuni- cation systems consecutively. For example, to the telecommunication systems of different (company) locations. By the subsequent selection of one of these logged-in systems the bearer of the device decides on
an individual basis regarding the utilisation of one of the telecommunica- tion systems to which they are logged in.
The D 11 can only be used on one of the logged-in telecom systems at any one time.
Operating with a D3- or a FC1 MEM card
In this operating mode, the D 11 is fitted with a MEM Card of a DECT ™
handset of the type D3 or FC1 that has already been logged in.
The D 11 uses the log-in data on the D3 or FC1 MEM card and copies the content of the phone book from the MEM card to its own memory.
At no stage does the D 11 write data back to the D3 or FC1 MEM Card. The D 11 cannot be logged on to further telecom systems during this op-
erating mode with a D3 or FC1 MEM card fitted. See page 138.
All logins to telecom systems that have been performed by the D 11 without a MEM card (see Operation without MEM card), can be neither seen nor selected when operating with a D3 or an FC1 MEM card. Logins can only be used again once the MEM card has been removed.
Telephone directory content that has been transferred from a D3 or FC1
MEM card to the memory of a D 11 is also retained after removal of the
MEM card.
Operating with an FC4 or an IH4 MEM card
In this operating mode, the D 11 is fitted with a MEM Card of a DECT ™
handset of the type FC4 or IH4.
The D 11 uses the log-in data, device settings and telephone directory entries stored on the FC4- or IH4 MEM card.
Additions and changes to the telephone directory as well as further log- ging in to telecom systems are possible in this operating mode and are stored similarly on the FC4 or IH4 MEM card.
All logins to telecom systems that has been performed by the D 11 with- out a MEM card (see Operation without MEM card), can be neither seen nor selected when operating with an FC4 or an IH4 MEM card. These logins can only be used again once the MEM card has been removed.
If your business handset has not yet been assembled
If your business handset has not yet been assembled when you receive it, the following steps are required to start up the D 11:
If the D 11 replaces a DECT ™ handset of type D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 that is already enrolled then the MEM card with the login data of the D3-, FC1-, FC4 or IH4 handset that is to be replaced must be placed in the
D 11.
If no MEM card is placed in the D 11, the D 11 is in the "Operating mode without MEM card“!
Fit the battery.
Pull the protective film from the display. Set up and connect the charger.
If you wish to operate the D 11 in the "operating mode without MEM card“, then the system coordinator of the telephone system or a service technician must log in the handset on your telephone system.
Exception: If you wish to operate the D 11 with a MEM card and the login data of a D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4, take note of Section „Information regarding the use of MEM cards of the D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 handsets” on page 137 below.
The handset is then ready to operate.
If your business handset has already been completely assembled
If you receive your handset fully assembled and have logged on to your tele- phone system, then you only need to set up and connect your charger.
Information regarding the use of MEM cards of the D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 handsets
All handsets of type D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 as well as FC 11 require a MEM card for login (enrolment) on a compatible telecommunication system, similar to the SIM card of a mobile telephone.
After successful login of a D3, FC1, FC4, IH4 or FC 11 handset by the adminis- trator of the telephone system, the respective MEM card contains:
all the data for login required to operate on this telecom system.
as a rule, an empty telephone directory, that can be supplied with direc- tory entries by means of either a special configuration tool or individually by manual input on the handset.
Should you wish to use a D 11 or FC 11 as a replacement for an already enrolled D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4, proceed as follows ...
Fit a MEM card
Switch the D 11 / FC 11 off immediately and remove the battery.
Slide the MEM card into the MEM card slot with the appropriate side obliquely beneath the crescent-shaped holder on the narrow or long side. The gold-coloured contact surfaces of the MEM card must face downwards. The tapered corner of the MEM card must match the correspondingly ta- pered corner of the MEM card slot.
Press the MEM card downwards until the small retaining tab grips the card. The retaining tab is always located opposite the crescent-shaped holder.
As soon as a D3-, FC1-, FC4- or IH4-MEM card has been placed in the D 11 / FC 11 , the battery has been installed and the handset has been switched on again, the following applies ...
The D 11 / FC 11 assumes the identity of its predecessor. It uses ...
The login data of the D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 handsets.
The IPEI (International Portable Equipment Identifier) of the respective predecessor.
The D 11 / FC 11 proceeds with the telephone directory on the MEM card as follows ...
In the case of a D3 or FC1 MEM card, it takes over the telephone direc- tory of the MEM card and writes it to its own telephone directory mem- ory.
In the case of an FC4 or IH4 MEM card, it uses its telephone directory entries without copying them.
NOTE
Telephone directory management when operating with a D3 or
FC1 MEM card:
If you add to or change the telephone directory of your D 11 / FC 11 on the handset, these additions / changes are only performed in the tele- phone directory memory of the D 11 / FC 11. The content of the tele- phone directory on the MEM card remains unchanged.
Telephone directory management when operating with an FC4 or
IH4 MEM card:
If you add to or change the telephone directory of your D 11 / FC 11 on the handset, these additions / changes are only performed in the tele- phone directory memory on the FC4 or IH4 MEM card.
Logging the handset onto further telecom systems when operating with a D3 or FC1 MEM card:
If you wish to log in a D 11 / FC 11 with a D3 or FC1 MEM card in- serted to an additional system-compatible telecommunication system, you must temporarily remove the MEM card from the D 11 / FC 11 and place it in a D3 / FC1 handset. You can now log in the D3 / FC1 hand- set to the desired system. Next, the MEM card must be placed in the
D 11 / FC 11 again. The D 11 / FC 11 can now be operated on one of the systems to which it has just been logged in.
Logging the handset onto further telecom systems when operat- ing with an FC4 or IH4 MEM card:
A D 11 / FC 11 with an FC4 or IH4 MEM card inserted can log in to a further system-compatible telecommunication system at any time, as you are accustomed with an FC4 or IH4.
When removing the D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 MEM Card from the D 11, ...
The D 11 assumes its own identity and its own IPEI once more for operation without a MEM card.
At this time uses the telephone directory entries present in the memory of the D 11. These entries comprise the copied telephone directory entries of the D3 or FC1 MEM card as well as the manual additions / changes that have been performed on the D 11 with a D3 or FC1 MEM Card in the mean- time.
Note: Entries from the telephone directory on the FC4- or IH4 MEM card as well as manual changes / additions that have been made on a D 11 with an FC4 or IH4 MEM card are located only on the FC4- / IH4 MEM card! They are not available for the D 11 without a MEM card!
When the D3, FC1, FC4 or IH4 MEM Card is removed from the FC 11, ...
The FC 11 loses its identity as it does not have its own IPEI. The FC 11 can only be operated with a system-compatible MEM card.
Menu selection
Display and Softkeys
Operation is supported by icons and texts in the display.
The display content and the functions of the softkeys - that is, the two keys on the left and right below the display - depend on the current state of the device (the so-called context).
The respective softkey functions are shown in the bottom line (footer) of the display directly above the softkeys.
Calling up the main menu
You reach the main menu from the idle display by means of the RIGHT SOFTKEY [Menu]. You return to the idle display with a keystroke on the LEFT SOFTKEY [Back].
Menu shortcut from the main menu
When menu icons are shown in the display, for example after a main menu
has been called up, these menu icons (sub-menus) can be selected by means of a keystroke on one of the numeric keys [1] to [9] (pre-selection).
The allocation of the numeric keys [1] to [9] and the 9 menu icons takes place sequentially from left to right and from top to bottom.
Example: Key [1] selects the top left icon, key [9] tags the bottom right icon in the display.
The heading of the selected sub-menu appears in the header line of the dis- play.
In this way, you can select one menu icon (sub-menu) after the other by
means of the numeric keys and obtain information regarding the function of the sub-menu with the aid of the header. If you press on the same numeric key for a second time after selecting a desired sub-menu, you will open the sub-menu.
The sub-menus either contain further menu icons or menu points in the form of text lines.
HINT
Using the RIGHT SOFTKEY [Menu] open the main menu and apply a long
keystroke - until there is a low key tone – on one of the numeric
keys [1] to [9] used as a shortcut. You will then proceed directly to the respective sub-menu.
Alternative path for menu selection from the main menu
You can also use the NAVIGATION ROCKER instead of the numeric keys as short- cuts (and shortcuts according to our tips) for selecting and calling up the
sub-menus.
Proceed as follows:
Open the main menu with the RIGHT SOFTKEY [Menu]. Navigate to the desired sub-menu.
Press the NAVIGATION ROCKER [arrow to the right, left, top, down]
Call up the sub-menu.
Press the NAVIGATION ROCKER [centre]
(Alternative: A keystroke on the RIGHT SOFTKEY [OK].
The sub-menus either contain further menu icons or menu points in the form of text lines.
Selection from further sub-menus or entries
The following possibilities exist after selection of a sub-menu.
If further icons of a menu level appear in the display, select one of the icons presented by following one of the outlined procedures.
If menu points or functions appear in the display in the form of text lines, navigate to the line with the desired menu point or function and open it by means of the RIGHT SOFTKEY [OK].
The number of menu levels and the appearance thereof as an icon or list line varies for the various (sub-) menus.
Programmable operating elements
You can assign up to eight main or sub-menu points (menus that are displayed as icons or text lines) as favourites on the 4 direction keys of the NAVIGATION ROCKER according to your preferences.
NOTE
List entries / text lines that do not represent sub-) menus, as for exam-
ple entries in the «Redial», «Missed calls», «Telephone directory»,
«Received calls» lists, cannot be assigned as favourites.
Repeat the following process for up to eight menu-icons in the form of list en- tries.
Mark a menu point or a function (text line) that you wish to assign as a fa- vourite.
Enter a long keystroke on the CENTRE of the NAVIGATION ROCKER. A list opens with the programmable keys and their keystroke type (long or short key- stroke).
With the aid of the ROCKER SWITCH, UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW, select key with which you wish to call your favourites at a later stage, from the following list.

Dual-function keys
Certain keys of your handset have two functions assigned. These can be rec- ognised by the additional imprinting. If you want to initiate the second, addi- tional function, the key must be given a long keystroke until a low-pitched confirmation tone is heard. The availability of key functions can depend on the current handset status (e.g. handset in normal mode or making a call) and the telephone system on which the handset is being operated.
To change to the general mode
Give the LEFT SOFTKEY a long keystroke, in order to move from any menu to the normal mode (idle display).

If a setting (a function or a feature) cannot be changed, contact the
system manager of the telephone system. Some functions must be en- abled in the telephone system before use.
Messaging
NOTE
The messaging functions are available only on a Mobility Server (e. g.
the Integral 55 or on our DECT ™ system compatible DoIP telecommu- nication system, System f.airnet) with a connected message server. The message server is an enhancement to your system-compatible telephone system (Mobility Server).
Messaging on other system-compatible DECT ™ telecommunication systems can differ from this description in detail.
Notes regarding the availability of features can be found in the relevant sections of this manual.
Messaging allows you to receive or send short alphanumeric messages (texts, digits) with your handset. You can send messages to individual subscribers or groups. The number of a subscriber can in isolated cases differ from his/her telephone number.
When operating the handset on a Mobility Server of the Integral 55 type, the messages are predefined texts, e.g. «Call text». If required, any digits up to
the maximum length of the message can be post-dialled. The list of predefined texts can be obtained from your system manager.
When operating the handsets on a Mobility Server of the DoIP type, System f.airnet, the ‘Message send’ feature is not yet available.
Success check for the sender
The sender receives confirmation whether the transmission of the message was successful.
If the message contains a request for manual acknowledgement and the recip- ient has acknowledged manually, the sender receives an acknowledgement of receipt in addition. Examples: POS <Call text> or NEG <Call text>.
Storage of received messages
The last 10 messages are stored in the system message list of the Integral 55
Mobility Server, the last 20 messages in the «Msg input» of the handset.
When operating a f.airnet DECT-over-IP telephone system, the last
20 messages are stored in the «Msg input» message list of the handset. The f.airnet telephone system has no system message list.
NOTE
to working with the system lists of the Integral 55 Mobility Server ...
If only one of the two system lists, (mail list, call list) contains entries, this list is opened immediately by a keystroke at the top or bottom of the rocker switch. You can browse through the entries in the opened list by further keystrokes at the top or bottom of the rocker switch.
If both lists contain entries and if the call list is activated, the «Mail List», notification appears in the display, if you press the top or bottom of the rocker switch. Select the «Mail List» or the «Call List» with fur- ther keystrokes at the top or bottom of the rocker switch. Confirm the selected list with the rocker switch [OK]; open it (by pressing the cen- tre of the key) and then select an entry in the opened list with further keystrokes at the top or bottom of the rocker switch.
Preconfigured signalling patterns for messages
Ten signalling patterns are available for message transmission (receiving mes- sages, sending messages). These signalling patterns belong to 10 call types with various priorities.
Table 1 lists the basic signalling patterns that are available on systems with
the Integral 55 Mobility Server as well as systems with the f.airnet DoIP Mobil- ity Server.
Table 2 lists further signalling patterns that are available in addition to the ba- sic signalling patterns on systems with the f.airnet DoIP Mobility Server.
Table 1
Signalling patterns for messages when operating a D 11 on an Integral 55 and on a f.airnet (DoIP) system
Table 2
Additional signalling patterns for received messages when operating a D 11 on a f.airnet (DoIP) system
Receiving a message
Your handset rings with one of the 10 signalling patterns (ringtone, ringtone duration, display presentation, ...) depending on the settings, with which the message has been sent.
The number of the sender and the message, e.g. «5371 Meeting in room 109»
appears in the display, if available. As long as the message is visible, you have the following possibilities:
Turn off the ringtone, delete the message from the display
Confirm the message manually, positive / negative
Message lists
When your handset is operated on a DECT-over-IP, f.airnet system, page on to „Handset message list (Mail Memory)” on page 196.
System message list of the Integral 55
The last 10 messages are stored in a message list (Mail Memory) of the Mobil- ity Server. The text "mail" in the general mode (idle display) indicates a read system message list ; the text "MAIL" (in capitals) indicates at least one un- read message in the system message list.
HINT
We recommend that the handset message list is to be used instead

The last 10 missed calls are saved in a system call list. In the general mode (idle display), the text «LIST» indicates at least one call that has not been taken note of. If all calls in the list have been noted, the text «LIST» is omitted. The last 10 calls are saved in the call list if they are not deleted manually.

HINT
We recommend to switch off the system call list of the Integral 55

Instead of using the system call list, use the Handset call list!

Calls» call list, in which the last 20 missed calls are saved.
Note: As long as this list contains missed calls that have not been noted, you can open the list with a keystroke on the LEFT SOFTKEY [List].
Alternatively, the menu access to this list can be used in the general mode
(idle display) of the handset.
Menu > call up missed calls, then ...

Care, maintenance, environment
Care
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use any solvents.
Maintenance
A lithium-ion battery has a limited working life. When the operating time of a device with a fully-charged battery has become obviously reduced, the battery must be exchanged.
There are no parts inside the handset, the charger and the plug-in charger that can be serviced by the user. Only authorised personnel may open the devices and carry out any interventions in the devices.
Environmental conditions
Your handset has a robust casing. This notwithstanding, protect your device against damp, extreme heat (e. g. sunshine behind glass) and dirt.
Take note of the different levels of protection of the D 11 and FC 11 handset types.
ATTENTION
Protect your handset against dirt that only can be removed from
the handset with great effort.
For example, fine iron filings, which are held onto the housing by the loudspeaker magnets or paste-like substances (e. g. grease, creams) that can collect in the loudspeaker and microphone openings.
